In 2013, I was all smiles—though mostly forced—trying to exude confidence I didn’t feel and constantly worrying about others’ opinions. I was tangled in a relationship with someone who needed endless affirmations of being loved and valued, draining my emotional reserves. 

Yet, I thought I was needed, that I was appreciated.

It took losing my oldest son the year before and the end of that taxing relationship to realize the power of letting go. Why cling to relationships beyond their expiration? Embracing the freedom of letting go can be liberating.

    • Desperation: Anxiety about being alone can make you seem desperate. Confidence attracts, and desperation repels.
